The days are growing shorter and colder and for many of us that means more time spent on the couch in front of the TV. Everyone knows that exercise is important to our health. The challenge, especially for seniors, is staying active during the winter and staying safe.
As we continue to demonstrate our commitment to exercise and fitness for all ages, we’ve added a new piece of exercise equipment at The Arboretum. The recumbent, elliptical cross trainer arrived this week – just in time for Christmas. Eddie was one of the first to give the cross trainer a try.
Although you might think that you could outgrow New Year’s resolutions, we find that looking forward to a New Year gives everyone time to pause and think about what we would like to do more of and less of in the coming year. As we look toward 2013, we are challenging seniors in our communities to get some form of exercise every day. Whether it’s a spin on the new cross trainer, a set of range of motion exercises or a lap around the parking lot, the benefits of exercise for older adults cannot be stressed enough.
We wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year!
